Pico 4 VR Headset: A Competitor to Oculus Quest 2

The Pico4 VR headset is an upcoming virtual reality device manufactured by the Pico company, which specializes in a multitude of VR applications. The device is compatible with the manufacturer’s own online store as well as the SteamVR store and is designed to be an exceptionally lightweight model.

    High Degree of Social Capability

The VR headset is lightweight and has accessible content. The VR headset is designed to be very social, offering options for users to interact through virtual avatars and voice chats.

Scheduled for Release in October 2022

Pico 4 has released on October 18th, 2022, in over a dozen European countries, and later in some East Asian countries. Its aim is to compete with Meta’s top VR headset, the Oculus Quest 2.

    Accessories for the Device

While the Pico4 headset itself was released in mid-October 2022, there are going to be several accessories for the device that will be released sometime in 2023. These include a specialized case for storage and a fitness tracker.

    Balanced VR Device

Pico advertises the VR headset as a well-balanced device suitable for workouts and interactive entertainment where the only limit is the user’s imagination. As far as VR headsets go, the Pico 4 seems to reflect a relatively high standard among more recent headset models.

    Highlighted Specs

The Pico4 sports 4K resolution at 4320 by 2160 and a pixel density of 28.6. The user can see a lot with the Pico 4 VR headset. It has a 105-degree field of view and a high refresh rate of 90 Hertz. The pancake lenses show 1200 pixels per square inch (PPI), making it very detailed. It also has an automatic IPD adjustment, which makes it far better than the Quest 2 in this regard.

    Integrated Stereo Speakers and Microphone

The Pico 4 has integrated stereo speakers installed into the device head strap, providing a complete auditory experience in addition to visuals. The VR headset comes with a built-in microphone, allowing users to interact with each other without any modification.

    Physical Components

The headset weighs 295 grams. The head strap adds weight, making it a little over half a kilo or one pound. The VR headset is mainly made of plastic and foam in white, black, and gray colors. Users can adjust the head strap to fit different head shapes.

    Motion Tracking Device

The headset will also come with a motion-tracking device that can improve accuracy when physically engaged. Users can attach it to their legs to enhance their VR experience. They will release this feature later in 2023.

    Technical Specifications

From a technical standpoint, the Pico 4 has a decent amount of memory, with 8 gigs available. It also comes equipped with a Snapdragon xr2 processor, has 5 external cameras to maximize environmental sensitivity, and utilizes the Pico OS 5.0.

    Battery Life

The Pico 4 has a maximum battery capacity of 5,300 milliamps, allowing for approximately 3 hours of active device usage. It will have over 200 apps and games when it releases on October 18th, and the library will grow every month. This is not as good as the Meta Quest 2, which has around 800 apps and games with more being available via side-loading from the website SideQuest.com.
